The Friends of Willen Hospice was formed in 1980 and has grown from a small group of dedicated people to a registered charity. During that time the Friends have raised £1 million and are on their way to raising their next. The Friends are a band of volunteers, from all walks of life, who undertake to raise enough money each year to cover all the costs of a bed at the Hospice. This costs in excess of £60,000 a year at the moment.

Each year the Friends Committee and individual members and helpers organise a variety of fund raising events from coffee mornings to jumble sales; raffles to fashion shows; take part in the door to door and street collections; man stalls and sell Christmas cards throughout the Hospice catchment area .
