| If or when the time is right to put a charity in your Will – please remember ours… A Gift in your Will today will help us care for other patients and families tomorrow |
If you are considering making or changing your existing Will please take legal advice. If, as we hope, you wish to make a gift to Willen Hospice in your Will, there are three main types to choose from. The following suggested clauses may be of assistance to you and your solicitor:
- this is a gift of all or part of what is left of your estate after taxes and debts are paid and all other legacies have been distributed – known as the residue. It is very important that at least one person or charity receives the residue of your estate; otherwise the Government will distribute it according to current legislation – intestacy law.
A residue gift can be from 1%, a small fraction, to the whole of the residue of your estate.
Willlen Hospice appreciate gifts of residue, whether of the whole or part, as gifts of residue inevitably adjust in line with inflation. A carefully thought through gift of residue can enable you to create the balance you want between your loved ones and the charities you wish to benefit.
"SUBJECT to the payment of my funeral testamentary and administration expenses inheritance tax and debts I GIVE DEVISE AND BEQUEATH all my real and personal property whatsoever and wheresoever including property over which I may have any general power of appointment (except property otherwise disposed of by my Will or any Codicil) to Willen Hospice whose Registered Office is situated at Manor Farm Milton Road Willen Village Milton Keynes MK15 9AB Registered Charity No 270194 absolutely for the general purposes of the Hospice and I DECLARE that the receipt of the Chief Executive or other authorised official for the time being shall be a good discharge to my Executors.”
Note: Quite often Willen Hospice receives the residue of an estate that is shared with another chosen charity that a Testator (the Will writer) equally supports.
- this is a gift of a specific sum of money. In many cases this may be stated to be index linked so that the value of the sum remains in line with inflation.
"I give the following pecuniary legacy absolutely and free of all taxes to Willen Hospice whose Registered Office is situated at Milton Road, Willen Village, Milton Keynes, MK15 9AB. Registered Charity No. 270194:
the sum of .............................................. ...........£................
......................................................... (words) ..................(figures)
for the general purposes of the Hospice, and I declare that the receipt of the Chief Executive or other authorised official for the time being shall be a good discharge to my Executors."
– this is a physical item such as a piece of jewellery or an antique.
"I give the following specific legacy absolutely and free of all taxes to Willen Hospice whose Registered Office is situated at Milton Road, Willen Village, Milton Keynes, MK15 9AB. Registered Charity No. 270194:
the item............................
........... (words)
for the general purposes of the Hospice, and I declare that the receipt of the Chief Executive or other authorised official for the time being shall be a good discharge to my Executors."
