Linda Warren, warehouse manager was recently going about her usual job of sifting through donations at the hospice warehouse in Kiln Farm when she came across a Beatles album. She immediately wondered if it might bring in more than the usual few pence that records are sold for in the Hospice’s charity shops. After a bit of investigating she found out that it was, in fact, a rare copy of Please, Please Me.
The album was in very good condition, complete with gold Parlophone label and was rare because four songs had been mis-credited to the publishers Dick James Music Co. Linda made the decision to list the find on eBay as she thought this would attract a wider audience and raise more money for the hospice.
Linda said:
“There was a lot of interest straight away with many people watching the item. I turned down an initial offer of £400 from someone in Japan, which was definitely the right decision because as the auction ended the price had reached £837! The winning bidder was from Lincolnshire, UK. He quickly sent a cheque through to the Hospice and the album was duly despatched.”
In fact, it was a good week all around for Hospice eBay sales. In the same listing was a collection of scrap 9ct gold jewellery. This was also very popular and raised £590 for Hospice funds.
The Hospice runs a ‘Going for Gold’ campaign and is always keen to accept donations of any scrap gold - broken chains, watches, bracelets etc that can be sold to raise funds for the Hospice. Please contact us or call Linda on 01908 578250 if you think you might have something of interest.
