Willen Hospice has received a donation of £25,000 from sustainable global logistics provider Gazeley and its partner, Land Securities.
The donation from the two companies was raised from a recent auction of industrial machinery, held at the new Magna Park logistics park in Milton Keynes. The money will be used for the Hospice Community Care expansion programme.

Christopher Eyes, Chief Executive of Willen Hospice, commented
“This very generous donation will be used to help fund the conversion of a disused barn on our site into new accommodation for the community care team, who are at present working in very cramped conditions. The donation means we will be able to give the best possible service to our patients and puts us in a stronger position to meet the rising need for our service within the community. We have now raised the £150,000 we needed for our barn conversion, however we still need to raise over £40,000 to extend our Day Hospice. Gazeley has always been a great supporter of ours and this latest contribution highlights their valued place within our family of donors.”
Don Morgan, Planning & Development Director at Gazeley, commented:
“We always try to find ways to give back to the communities in which we operate, and Willen Hospice plays a vital role supporting so many people in Milton Keynes. The work they do makes a huge difference to the lives of both the patients and the families of those being treated, it really is a great cause.”
The Magna Park site where the auction was held, formerly know as Fen Farm, was previously owned by the Benson family. It was Charles Benson who originally came up with the idea to hold an event and donate the money to the Hospice. The Benson family also kindly provided catering, car parking space and volunteers to help run the event. By working together with Gazeley and Land Securities, the team organised a hugely successful event which raised much needed funds to support a vital facility for local people.
Charles Benson added
“As a long term supporter of Willen Hospice, I am proud to be in a position where my work with other companies leads to further donations being made. Gazeley’s support for the community is always of great assistance, and is another example of how such generosity can make a real difference to people’s lives.”
Work on the barn conversion is due to start in September 2007. Further information about the Day Hospice Appeal may be found here.
