Dragon Boat teams make a splash
Dragon boat teams made a real splash on Sunday 24 June at the Milton Keynes Dragon Boat Festival which raised funds for Willen Hospice
The Milton Keynes Dragonboat Festival on Sunday 24th June was a fantastic spectacle. The day started a bit breezy and cloudy but soon brightened up when the teams took to the water. 57 crews - comprising up to 16 paddlers plus a drummer – took part in the 200 metre sprint race across Willen Lake South.
Families and supporters were able to enjoy the amusements and stalls and were also treated to a Fly Past by a Lancaster Bomber. Approximately £20,000 has been raised for Willen Hospice.
The Results
The crews, representing businesses, organizations and groups of friends from all over Milton Keynes and the surrounding area battled it out all day in 5-boat races over a 200m race course. Eventual winners were Plastic Fantastics representing Nampak who were the fastest team throughout the day and were a single sex team of men. They fought a fantastic final to beat Mars Barge from Mars Horsecare UK Ltd into second place, Electric Dragon Warriors from EDW Technology Ltd in third, Wheldon 5 O representing Wheldon Contracts in fourth and B/E Aerospace SAO from B/E Aerospace in fifth.
Top Mixed Crew
The top mixed crew were the Wheldons Waiders from Wheldon Contracts.
Charity Trophy
B/E Aerospace SAO from B/E Aerospace also won the Charity Trophy and a fabulous meal out at The Swan at Salford, pledging over £9,500 for the Festival nominated charity, Willen Hospice.
Best Dressed
Winners of the trophy for ‘best dressed crew’ were PPP United around the World from Amscan International.
