Fundraiser is a Friend
Local Bletchley businessman John Kembery has spent 10 years raising incredible amounts of funds for Willen Hospice and is still going.
Ten years ago John Kembery, contacted the Friends of Willen Hospice requesting to support the charity by devoting his spare time to fundraising. He set himself a target to raise £40,000 in 10 years.
Despite his own health problems, John, with support from friends and family, has raised in excess of £40,600. He is continuing to support Willen Hospice and is currently planning an Elvis Fish and Chip Night at the Railway Club in Bletchley
John’s main fundraising events each year have been the John Baker Memorial Golf Day held in May with the generous support of Aylesbury Vale Golf Club and an annual shooting event at the Soulbury Shoot.
John spends his Sunday lunchtimes shaking his collecting tin (customised beer mug with bicycle bell attached) in the Bletchley Railway Club plus each Christmas he organises a Raffle which usually comprises three hampers filled with prizes and goods generously donated by local businesses and friends.
John said, “A number of friends of mine have received fantastic care and support from the Hospice staff and as a result I want to put something back. This is such an important local charity for Milton Keynes and needs to remain here forever”.
Paul Hinson, Chief Executive at Willen Hospice said: “This is an extraordinary man doing something extraordinary. His selflessness is inspirational and the funds he raised have helped us in a magnificent way. We are eternally grateful to John and those that have supported him through these 10 years.”
The Friends of Willen Hospice was established in 1980 and since then has raised over £1,500,000 all of which goes towards patient care. If you would like to Be a Friend of Willen Hospice please do get in touch
