Summer of fun

In spite of the weather, our Summer continues to be a busy time of fundraising for Willen Hospice. Our thanks to all who have supported to date.

It began with the Jubilee Walk for Willen which saw more than 400 people and 22 dogs come along for the annual walk around the lake, many dressed in red, white and blue. Once back at the hospice walkers enjoyed some entertainment, a cup of tea and a slice of cake in the specially decorated "Jubilee Tea Tent". More than £3500 was raised for the Hospice.

Next came the annual Alternative Ascot afternoon of fun with a full house of glamorous ladies (and a few handsome gentlemen) spending the afternoon in the marquee, having a great time, placing their bets and cheering on the winners. The day raised more than £9500.

A special thanks must go to AV Network who provided the audio and visual equipment for this and all other June events at no cost to the Hospice.

The Dragon Boat Festival took place on 24 June and was another great day for the Hospice, both in terms of profile and financial outcome with in excess of £20,000 being pledged on the day. The Hospice was very proud of its "Willen Swans" for a truly gallant performance - missing out on the semi-finals by just 3 seconds!

A huge thank you also to Alroy Pickersgill and Graham Joyce at Fastbolt who held their annual Golf Days. Both days far exceeded expectation with totals of more than £20,000 being raised for the Hospice - a truly fantastic achievement. Incidentally, if you are keen to participate in some more golfing action, there is a  Willen Hospice Golf Day at Aspley Guise & Woburn Sands Golf Club in September.

Of course the MK Midnight Moo on July 14th was another fun event. With more than 1500 ladies taking part it proved to be another memorable night and an important fundraiser for the Hospice.

There are lots of community events coming up in the summer months so please add the events calendar and  fundraising blog to your favourites to get the latest information and to see what else people have been doing to raise funds for the Hospice. Thanks again for all your support.
