MK Dragon Boat Festival
Willen Hospice is the nominated charity for this event
Staff from Willen Hospice and Easycopiers - Festival sponsor - gathered in dry dock to launch the 10th Milton Keynes Dragon Boat Festival.
The Milton Keynes Dragon Boat Festival, organised by Gable Events, is the largest one-day dragon boat event in the country, attracting 60 teams and more than 14,000 spectators. Last year the Festival sold out three months in advance and, if the interest already generated this time around is anything to go by, the tenth anniversary Festival taking place at Willen Lake on Sunday 26th June will be another spectacular success!
Easycopiers is sponsoring the Dragon Boat Festival for the third time this year. Managing Director, Adam Macintyre, commented, “As a company we are always proactive in attending and sponsoring charity events and we are delighted to announce that we are back for a third year supporting the Milton Keynes Dragon Boat Festival and helping to celebrate its tenth anniversary. For 2011 we have chosen to support Willen Hospice.”

Dragon boat racing has an ancient Chinese history dating back 2,000 years and according to the Chinese calendar, 2011 is the Year of the Rabbit. Traditionally, the Rabbit is the luckiest sign of the Chinese calendar which bodes well for participants in the Dragon Boat Festival! Exciting, colourful and great fun, fortunately neither previous experience of dragon boat racing nor the physical prowess of a Steve Redgrave or Jessica Ennis is required to take part and be successful! The dragon boats and all the necessary racing equipment are provided and each crew is guaranteed a minimum of three races. What’s more, the Festival offers a full day of fun both on land and water with a wide variety of activities on the bank side to keep everyone entertained between races including music from Festival supporter Heart 103.3.
As well as a great day out for all the family and the legendary team building benefits of dragon boat racing, entering a team also offers a superb opportunity to raise money for good causes and The Swan at Salford has kindly donated a celebratory lunch for the second year for the team that raises the most money for the Festival charity.
