Willen Hospice recognises the very demanding role of carers and is developing services to try to meet some of their needs
The Willen Hospice Carers' Drop In (formerly the Carers' Support Group), is for carers of patients know to the Hospice. It offers the opportunity to meet other carers and to share experiences and information whilst receiving the support of staff and volunteers. The Drop In is held every Monday afternoon (except Bank Holidays) from 2pm - 4pm in the Hospice and carers are welcome to come in for all, or part of that time. The emphasis is on informality. Carers may enjoy a massage, reflexology or craftwork, or may prefer to just sit and talk in a relaxing environment.
Transport to the Drop In can usually be arranged if needed.

The Carers' Support Service has trained volunteers who are able to offer regular supportive home visits to carers, giving them the opportunity to discuss their own situation with a volunteer who has some understanding of the demands made on Carers.
Trained volunteers are able to sit with patients at home to allow carers a short break - normally up to two hours on a weekly basis. Unfortunately, at this time the volunteers cannot offer support in situations where patients have more specialised moving and handling needs, though we hope to develop this in the future. However, the volunteers can make a cup of tea, listen or read to the patient etc.
