Fishing Marathon Legacy

Vic Wright Fishing Marathons raise £40,000 for Hospice

A message from Vic's family and friends:

"Vic Wright was a member of The Great Linford Lakes fishing complex,  Vic had the idea to hold a 24 hour fishing marathon in aid of Willen Hospice that anyone could take part in.

The first match was held in 2000 and raised just over £1,000. In the third year Bryan Walker, Vic’s son-in-law, and wife Terri took up the challenge to make the event a much bigger competition with an evening of fun and entertainment running along side the fishing marathon. This first double event raised just over £8,500.

Vic has sadly past away but has left his legacy with the fishing marathon. He would be happy seeing everyone enjoying fishing and raising money for a worthy cause. Many local companies also support the annual event with donations and sponsorship, the most support coming from Reid transport. Den Reid has given his time and money nearly every year and is a key figure and friend.

This year’s marathon raised a fantastic £4,314, which was a great achievement considering the venue had to be changed at short notice. Milton Keynes Angling Association came to the rescue and it was held at New Bradwell Lake.

Well done to all the anglers who have taken part over the years. Raising sponsorship, bringing raffle prizes, putting their hands in their pockets and giving to a worthy cause. Watch out for details of next year’s event and the future of raising funds for Willen Hospice in Vic’s name."
