Willen Hospice
Willen Hospice is forecasting that it will end this financial year with over half a million pounds' shortfall in its budget. The current, difficult economic circumstances have led to a reduction in income from several sources.
Although the Hospice has financial reserves to ensure it can continue in the short term without reducing services, like many other organisations, its investments have seen a fall in value.
The Hospice relies on generous individuals and organisations to donate enough to cover 75% of its running costs, with the other 25% coming from the NHS.
It is urgently appealing to the public to continue and, if possible, increase their support, because the care it offers to individuals and their families is still desperately needed. Last year over 400 terminally ill people were cared for by Hospice Teams and support was also given to families - all free of charge. Expert care is provided 365 days a year.
If donations were to decrease excessively, it could result in a reduction of services for people facing life threatening illness - something the Hospice is anxious to avoid.
Several measures have already been taken to improve the financial situation and an economy drive is in place to cut costs where possible without compromising patient care.
Paul Hinson, Chief Executive, commented:
“We realise this is a difficult time financially for everyone and all donations are appreciated, large or small. Local generosity has enabled the Hospice to provide essential care in Milton Keynes for over 28 years. We know that with public support we can survive this difficult time and continue to play our part in the community. Please keep us here by giving in whatever way you can.”
