Starship Technologies Delivery Robot signs up for Willen Hospice All New Moo fundraiser
Milton Keynes locals taking part in the Willen Hospice All New Moo charity event this Saturday (12 September) will have the unusual opportunity to ‘Race the Robot’, as a Starship Technologies delivery robot signs up to take on 10 miles.
All New Moo is an adaption of the popular Willen Hospice MK Midnight Moo, which was set to take place in July, but cancelled due to COVID-19. Participants will be individually walking, running or scooting their own 5, or 10 mile routes between 8am – 6pm on Saturday. There will be an all-day Zoom party for people to join virtually, as well as a ‘cheer point’ and memory wall outside the Hospice.
In true Moo style, the cute robot will be donning a new fancy dress outfit inspired by Willen Hospice mascot, Florence the Cow. On the day, the heroic robot will whizz around the whole of Willen Lake, repeatedly passing the Hospice until it reaches the 10-mile mark. The time it takes the robot to complete the ‘All New Moo’ will be recorded, and other Moo walkers or runners can attempt to beat its time!
Andy Curtis, Head of UK Operations at Starship Technologies said, “Willen Hospice reached out to Starship during lockdown, to help raise vital funds at a very challenging time for so many people. We added a ‘Tip for Charity’ function in our Starship Food Delivery app to allow our customers to add a small donation for Willen Hospice when ordering their groceries, and we’re proud to have helped in a small way. The Hospice has supported so many of us in Milton Keynes, so we're honoured to be working with them again for this event on Saturday. We look forward to cheering on our robot and seeing who can beat its time!”
Tracey Jago, Willen Hospice Events Manager said, “We now have over 400 people, PLUS one robot, taking part in our All New Moo this Saturday!
It’s been an extremely tough year for Willen Hospice, and we are facing a huge loss in income this summer. We have been doing the MK Midnight Moo for over 10 years, so to have to change it at short notice because of COVID-19 was a huge challenge, but the response from our community and local businesses, like Starship Technologies, has been amazing.
We are so excited to finaly be holding our Moo, we are really looking forward to seeing our wonderful supporters on Zoom, or passing by the Hospice. And if you see a cow-themed robot near Willen Lake on Saturday, make sure to snap a photo and hashtag #AllNewMoo.”
There’s still time to take part in the Willen Hospice All New Moo. It costs £20 for adults, and £8 for children. Adults will receive their own ‘Moo’ vest for the day, and children will be given a colour-in bib. Just visit www.willen-hospice.org.uk/moo to sign up.
