A gift in your will makes a difference to Willen Hospice

Gifts in wills are so important to Willen Hospice, helping us to plan ahead to provide specialist palliative care in the local community. For the month of November 2018, participating solicitors are working with Willen Hospice to offer an exclusive will writing service in return for a donation.

One of the solicitors Willen Hospice is delighted to be partnering with is Leighton Buzzard-based Austin & Carnley, who are offering this service locally during Will Month. Austin & Carnley is one of the oldest established firms in Bedfordshire. Founded in in Luton in 1884, it has been in Leighton Buzzard since the 1950s and includes wills and probate in its services.

We met Deborah Neiteler, Partner – Private Client Department at Austin & Carnley, as she was preparing for Will Month. She said "Have you thought about why it's important to write a will? One of the main reasons it to decide who is going to administer your affairs after you pass away. It's important to appoint executors who you trust and who you know will carry out your wishes in accordance with your will. Another good reason is to decide your burial wishes. I've had people coming in to see me and they have not known what their parents' wishes were, and it's caused a lot of anxiety for the family.

"It's important to plan where the contents of your estate will go. By making a will you have control over legacies and gifts and will be in a position to make provision for any family who may need assistance, or charities you support, whereas if you leave your estate without making a will, your assets may be passed under the laws of intestacy, which may not reflect your wishes

Any donated gifts or legacies make a real impact on the lives of people who need the services of the Hospice. The Hospice helps bring comfort and relief to those coming into its In-Patient Unit with a life-limiting condition. It helps the Hospice At Home team provide care to people in the comfort of their own home. It also helps the Patient and family Services team give support to loved ones struggling with their grief.

Willen Hospice would like to thank all the solicitors taking part in Will Month, for their valuable input and support..
