Online auction now LIVE
The ‘Zoom with a view’ live virtual auction will take place at 7pm this Saturday, thanks to a group of Willen Hospice supporters from the Woburn Sands area.
This is the first event of its kind for the Hospice. The live auction will be held via the Zoom video conferencing platform but the auction site is live now (so you don’t have to attend on Saturday to take part). Their aim is to raise at least £26,000. They originally aimed to raise £13,000, which is the cost of one day’s operation for Willen. But they are doing so well that they have doubled the target to two days’.
The group behind the event have previously regularly carried out sponsored cycle rides for Willen. But, with social distancing, sponsored events and other kinds of fundraising ruled out, they got creative.
Main organiser, Tim Raper, said “We all know how tough fund-raising is for Willen in the lockdown and we wanted to help. So many of us are spending time on video calls these days, doing things we never thought possible, like cooking and yoga classes. We thought, auctions are great fun fund-raising events, why don’t we try to do one on Zoom?”
The auction is available to join for all Willen supporters. There are some great prizes on offer, from luxury foreign villas, to precious bags of flour and boxes of vegetables. Something for every pocket.
If you are interested in taking part please register here, for a £20 donation. You can access the auction website and start bidding. By registering you will also receive an invitation to the Zoom event on Saturday where the bidding for the top items will be concluded. If you can’t attend the Zoom call, don’t worry, bidding can be done on the website.
If you’re joining a Zoom call for the first time, it’s straight-forward and careful instructions will be provided. The evening should be great fun - communal singing and dancing via video are promised!
Willen Hospice CEO, Peta Wilkinson, said: “The proactive support of people like Tim and this innovative group of people cannot be underestimated in terms of supporting Willen Hospice to be here to care. We are facing unprecedented times and an unprecedented fall in income. This means the world to us and will allow our dedicated teams to continue to provide exceptional care and support to people at the time when they need it the most. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.”
Thank you for your support
