Who are the Friends of Willen Hospice?
The Friends are a group of enthusiastic volunteers, from all walks of life, whose aim is to raise enough money each year to meet all the care and other costs associated with providing one Hospice bed, and buy much needed equipment.
Whether you’re working full time, part time or retired, at college or sixth form, the Friends need your help!
The Friends raise funds in lots of different ways and since launching in 1981 have raised over £2 million to support the care at Willen Hospice.
The Friends Annual General Meeting took place Thursday 23 June.

Join the Friends on their friendly committee
Become a member of the Friends for just £15 per year. As a member of the Friends of Willen Hospice you will be entitled to attend the AGM and stand for election to the committee if there is a vacancy, receive copies of newsletters with information about the Hospice, forthcoming events and receive an up-dated report of fundraising efforts.
Organise your own event for the Friends
We’ve made it - £2million!
On 22 September 2016 the Friends presented the Hospice with a cheque for £10,000 bring our total contribution to £2million. It took 23 years to raise the first £1,000,000; surprisingly in difficult economic times it has taken nearly half that time just 12 years. A big thank you to everyone who has supported us over the years. We rely on the support and help of a great many local people and organisations.
The Big Sing! Newport Pagnell Parish Church, October 2016
The Newport Pagnell Singers annual concert in aid of the Friends was, as usual, a sell-out event. The Singers were joined by the Cranfield based choir Sounds Familiar and by No Strings Attached, a quintet of young local brass players. It was an evening for all musical tastes which included songs from musicals and well known numbers such as Blue Moon, Bohemian Rhapsody, The Pink Panther and Bring Me Sunshine.
The evening raised an amazing £1,160. Our thanks to all who took part and to the Friends volunteers who manned front of house.
New Year’s Eve Dinner and Dance at Windmill Hill Golf Centre
Another successful and enjoyable event organised by John and Rose Kembery. The grand total raised was £3,000.
MK Community Car Raffle
Thank you to all who sold tickets on behalf of the Friends. The winning ticket will be drawn at MK Dons Stadium on 25 February and the winner will be presented with the car at a reception in mid-March.
Friends Raffle raises £1,542
The winning tickets were drawn on Thursday 22 September by Dawn Clark, Fundraising Manager. The raffle, the first organised by the Friends for some time, was led Amy Dennis a member of the Friends committee. You can view the winning tickets here.
Our thanks to everyone who supported the raffle and to all the local companies who donated the prizes.
Dancing for Willen
On Saturday 9 July the Strutting Stars Line Dancers led by Jan Cade held a sponsored 12 hour dance marathon in aid of Willen Hospice and raised a magnificent £5,348. The dancers completed their marathon with a well deserved bacon butte breakfast and reportedly no sore feet. Our thanks to Jan and everyone who took part and for their continued support of the Friends.
Our thanks to all who helped at the bucket collections in Wolverton, Buckingham, Kingston and Bletchley during 2016. The total raised was £9,156.51!

Newport Pagnell Carnival and Parade Saturday 8th July – the Friends will be walking in the parade and manning a stall at the field
Calling all online shoppers – you can raise funds for Willen when doing your on-line shopping. Instead of going direct to your retailer first register on easyfundraising.org.uk with your email address and a password and select the Friends of Willen Hospice as your good cause.
When you decide to shop go to easyfundraising.org.uk first and then select your retailer, e.g. Amazon, Argos, Debenhams, John Lewis/Waitrose etc); you will be transferred to their web site where you shop as usual. The retailer will give a percentage of your purchase to the Friends.
Friends Summer Raffle – the raffle was launched at the beginning of July and will be drawn on 22 September. If you would like to take books please email email@example.com or phone Liz on 07891 280904. Tickets are £1 each; there are 5 tickets in each book. A fantastic number of prizes.
The collecting tins placed in shops, offices, pubs and cafes are an important way of raising funds. Between April and December 2016 the total raised from the tins came to £19,476.81.
We need volunteers who are willing to take responsibility for looking after a few tins in their area, i.e. making sure that existing tins are regularly changed and replaced and full ones returned to the Friends Treasurer. And also place new tins.
