Friends of Willen Hospice
Who are the Friends of Willen Hospice?
The Friends are a group of enthusiastic volunteers from all walks of life, whose aim is to raise enough as much money as possible to support the work of Willen Hospice.
Whether you’re working full time, part time or retired, at college or sixth form, the Friends need your help!
The Friends raise funds in lots of different ways and since launching in 1981 have raised over £2 million to support the care at Willen Hospice.
How you can help the Friends of Willen Hospice
Volunteer at one of the many Friends events
Join the Friends on their friendly committee
Become a member of the Friends for just £15 per year. As a member of the Friends of Willen Hospice you will be entitled to attend the AGM and stand for election to the committee if there is a vacancy, receive copies of newsletters with information about the Hospice, forthcoming events and receive an up-dated report of fundraising efforts.
In particular we need some taller, stronger (younger?) volunteers to help us raise and lower our gazebo at the various outdoor events we attend. You would not need to stay all day, nor be present at every event, but help would be greatly appreciated.
If you know of or are organizing a fete, car boot or similar at which a Friends stall would be welcome, please contact us (see below)

Newport Pagnell Singers - Charity of the Year
The Choir’s final concert of the year ‘Carols and Brass’, saw a full house at St Peter and St Paul’s Parish Church on December 8th. Supported by Bradwell Silver Band the audience enjoyed a programme of traditional Christmas music – carols and the Hallelujah Chorus - and popular hits such as the chart topping Merry Christmas Everyone and Rocking Around the Christmas Tree. At the interval the audience indulged in a glass of wine or fruit juice and a mince pie.
Our thanks once again to the Newport Singers, for choosing the Friends as their Charity of the Year, and to the Bradwell Silver Band, for contributing to a wonderful evening.
The Friends would like to thank all who supported the bucket collection at the end of the evening, raising over £300.
Our friends at the Beehive in Deans Hanger continue to support us with the proceeds their regular Meat Auctions. Thanks again to all who organize and participate in their auctions, it is much appreciated.
About once a month, on a Friday evening, Jeanette and Marion organize quiz nights at New Bradwell’s Sports Club Pavilion, to raise money for their chosen charities, one of which is the Friends. On December 6th, they presented the 'Friends of Willen team’ with a cheque for £1,000 for which we are very grateful.
The Quizzes are always good fun, so why not go along in the New Year and help support some good causes.
We are also grateful to Jeanette and Marion for acting as Quiz Masters at the quiz we held at Newport Working Men’s Club on November 9th which raised over £450.00.

Quiz at Shenley Leisure Centre December 3rd
Every couple of weeks Quizmasters Dave and Sid organise a quiz in aid of a different charity each time. On this occasion their chosen charity was the Friends and raised an amazing £242.00. (As a bonus, the Friends Team did not come last!)
In the last financial year buckets collections raised almost £10,000. We have a number in the pipeline for this year and if you can spare an hour or two to help out sometime it would be very much appreciated and it can be very rewarding! Thanks to Tesco, their customers and all those volunteers who made this possible.
In April (26-27) the bucket collection at Tesco Bletchley store raised a total of £1,242.70.
In May (18-19) the Bucket Collection at Buckingham’s Tesco Store raised a magnificent £1,384,37.
June 15th saw our volunteers at Tesco Wolverton, raising another £806.31.
Watch this space for all the events coming up in 2019! We look forward to seeing you and fundraising alongside you.
Ongoing Fundraising Activities
Calling all online shoppers – you can raise funds for Willen when doing your on-line shopping. Instead of going direct to your retailer first register on easyfundraising.org.uk with your email address and a password. Select the Friends of Willen Hospice as your good cause. When you decide to shop go to easyfundraising.org.uk first and then select your retailer, e.g. Amazon, Argos, Debenhams, John Lewis/Waitrose etc); you will be transferred to their web site where you shop as usual. The retailer will give a percentage of your purchase to the Friends. Collecting Tins
The collecting tins placed in shops, offices, pubs and cafes are an important way of raising funds. In the year April 2017 to March 2018 the total raised from the tins came to £25,158.55.We always need more volunteers who are willing to take responsibility for looking after a few tins in their area This involves making sure that existing tins are regularly changed and the full ones returned to the Friends Treasurer. Finding new venues to place the tins would also be a huge help.
