Open Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday between 10.30am and 3.30pm, The Wellbeing Centre at Willen Hospice offers a friendly, supportive environment for patients with specialist palliative care needs.
How can I access the Wellbeing Centre?
Referrals to the Wellbeing Centre can be made by healthcare professionals. After a referral has been received a member of the team will contact you to invite you in for an initial assessment. We can then discuss your aims and objectives so that you receive the best care available. All referrals to the Wellbeing Centre are for a period of 12 weeks. You will be reviewed by a member of the nursing team prior to the end of this period to assess your needs.
give you specialist advice and support on symptom control related to your illness and communicate any recommendations regarding care directly to your GP
support you through clinical treatments such as Chemotherapy and Radiotherapy
support you with decision making about your future care
provide you with the opportunity to talk one-to-one with any of the team about things that may be concerning you
give referrals to the Patient and Family Services Department and access to other Hospice services if required
The Wellbeing Centre can be accessed via Car Park 2 at the back of Willen Hospice. Disabled spaces are available. We also have a specially adapted ambulance (see video below) that transports patients to and from the Wellbeing Centre - if you would have specific transport needs please let a member of the team know.
Food & Drink
During your visit you'll receive a delicious hot meal made fresh in our Hospice kitchens. Snacks and drinks are available throughout the day.
There are also a range of complementary therapies and activities…
The Wellbeing Centre gives visitors the opportunity to take part in art activities both as an individual or as part of a group. Ranging from pottery to card making to painting, the enriching art activities gives patients a chance to not only unwind and relax, but also to sometimes express feelings when they can’t find the right words. Alternative therapies provided also include massage, reflexology, Reiki, relaxation, Shiatsu and aromatherapy.
Our relaxation sessions give patients a time to sit back and really relax. Jim, one of our volunteers and a hypnotherapist, puts on relaxing music and talks people into relaxed state helping them put their cares aside for a short time.
Thursdays 10.30am to 3.30pm
Our drop in service is available to patients, carers or family members who need our advice and support. If you are a new referral you may be referred into the drop in so that we can assess your needs and plan which day would be most suitable for the 12 week programme.
