This month we’re focusing on New Year, New Challenge. A challenge is a great way to really push yourself and have some incredible life experiences while raising money for Willen Hospice.

We need to raise £4.7 Million every year to continue providing personalised, palliative care. By taking on a challenge and fundraising for us, you’re helping us to always be there to care. Here are some ideas to get you started…

Running

There are so many amazing running events to take part in in 2022. If you’re a keen runner, or want to become one, by signing up for a running event, the date deadline and

fundraising will help make you accountable and keep your running in check.

This year we have some exciting charity places, including:

Local running events include…

If you feel like you need a year to train, you can apply for our charity places in the Berlin Marathon 2023, and London Marathon 2023.

Run for Willen Try Out session – 16 January

Run for Willen is a friendly group of people who have a shared love for Willen Hospice and running. The group meet every Sunday morning and run whatever distance suits them that day.

To see if it’s for you, we’re holding a ‘Try out’ session on Sunday 16 January. All you need to do is show up at the Hospice in Car Park 3 at 9.30am, and join us for a run.

Once-in-a-lifetime

Challenges are an amazing way to open up your world and push yourself to do something you’d never normally do.

We have some exciting challenges planned for this year and next, but the earlier you commit, the more time you have to reach your fundraising goal.

These companies also offer a variety of challenges and incredible experiences…

Ultra Challenges

Walk it, run it, or jog it. An ultra challenge doesn’t mean you have to be an elite athlete. If you want to do something different, then have a look at the websites below to get some ideas for how you’re going to make 2022 unforgettable.

Cycling

If you’re better on your bike, signing up to a cycling challenge is a great way to hit those King of the Mountains and travel new and exciting routes, whether that’s in the UK or abroad.

Virtual Challenges

Committing yourself to a challenge with a deadline date may be too much of an ask if you already have a busy lifestyle, or you’re looking after parents or children. Nevertheless, that doesn’t mean you can’t choose a challenge that works around you, and the rise of virtual challenges offers just that.

The Conqueror has a number of virtual challenges you can do in your own time, anywhere, anyhow – and their medals are something to behold! Or if you do want to do some serious training for a marathon or long walk, they’re a great way to make your training more interesting.

Race at Your Pace is another great option, and is open to all abilities, whether you want to take it easy and walk it or swim it, or if you’re in a wheelchair. Kids can take part too and you have a whole month to complete your challenge.
