Cycling Sportive – 29 August

Our Cycling Sportive is back, and this year we have new routes and our first ever 100 miler!

If you’ve done our Sportive before, you will know that’s it’s a well-organised event and always a lot of fun. If you haven’t done it before, then sign up! Choose a route that challenges you just enough, and gives you the motivation to get training and out on your bike over the spring and summer.

To celebrate Willen Hospice’s 40th Anniversary, we will be selling a very special pro cycling jersey, kindly sponsored by Incentive Smart.

Can’t make the date? Don’t live nearby? No problem! We’ll also be holding a virtual Ride for Willen so you can do it anytime, anywhere.

Our new signposted routes start in Olney, taking you through the scenic countryside out towards Bedford.

You can look forward to steady hills and long stretches of road, passing sweeping cornfields, and grazing cows and sheep. Take exciting twist and turns through quaint villages, like the picturesque Harrold, and the scenic stretch between Stoke Goldington and Lavendon.

There will be feed stations about 20-24 miles from the finish on all three routes.  Our 65 and 100 mile routes will include a water station 20 miles from start, and another 50 miles into the 100 mile route.

We’ll send you the GPX files for all three routes, so you can cycle your chosen miles on the day, but save the other routes for another time. We will send you the links to the maps a week before the event.

We need your support

Willen Hospice has a very special place in the hearts of people in the local area. At the toughest time of their lives, we do everything we can so people feel relief from pain and families can enjoy the precious moments they have left together. In the midst of the exhaustion, the pain and the grief, we are there. Our highly skilled professional team provide the best quality and heartfelt care for terminally ill people – and it’s all free to everyone who needs us.To do all of this, we need to raise £4.7million every year, and COVID-19 has made fundraising incredibly difficult. We are kindly asking everyone taking part in our Sportive to raise a minimum of £50 to support our care.

You can find helpful fundraising resources here. Thank you.

Event is subject to COVID-19 guidance at the time.

In a typical year...
our cost, per minute
phone calls to patients at home
fabulous volunteers
patients cared for at home
home visits
patients at the hospice
of cups of tea
counselling sessions
We can only provide the care we do thanks to the incredible generosity of our community, through their continued volunteering, fundraising and donations throughout the year. Your donation will enable us to continue providing care and support to those facing a life-limiting diagnosis, and to support their loved ones.
