Sahara Trek and Community Project – 18 – 25 March 2023

Feel the heat as you trek across the breath-taking Sahara desert, followed by a memorable community project in Marrakech, with this once-in-a-lifetime adventure.

This trek is rated ‘moderately challenging’ by The Different Travel Company.

The Trek

On your Moroccan Sahara trek, you’ll pass ancient dried up river beds, vast sun-baked plains that beautifully contrast with the blue, open sky, and huge sand dunes which can rise up to heights of 150 metres! After a challenging day’s walk, you’ll get to rest your feet as you set up camp and gather around a fire, looking up to the stunning night sky and getting to know your fellow trekkers.

As you take on this challenge you will be immersed into the Berber way of life, an ethnic group of nomadic people, indigenous to North Africa whose culture can be traced back over 4,000 years. You will be accompanied by professional English-speaking Berber guides who have an excellent knowledge of culture and hiking in the region, and you enjoy traditional Berber cuisine cooked by the team.

The Community Project

This challenge also gives you an opportunity to not only support Willen Hospice in Milton Keynes but also local communities in Marrakech.

You’ll be helping an organisation that supports vulnerable young people with education and vocational training, and elderly people by creating a comfortable social environment for them to spend their golden years. Your tasks will vary depending on the need at the time but you’re likely to get involved with refurbishment, redecorating and gardening which will make an instant impact at this incredible centre.

Fundraising

A £390 registration fee is payable at the time of booking and then, with the support of the fundraising team, you’re asked to fundraise £2,100 for Willen Hospice (this includes trip costs of £1,050).

80% of the fundraising target (£1,680) is due by 16 December 2022

20% of the fundraising target (£420) by 3 March 2023

We need your help

Willen Hospice needs to raise £4.7 Million a year, that’s £9 a minute, to continue providing free, compassionate care. If you, or someone you know, has experienced care from Willen, then you will know how important our work is, and the difference it makes to give our patients a ‘good death’ with dignity, comfort and support. This is only possible thanks to the support from our community. By taking part in a challenge like this and raising funds for Willen Hospice, you’ll be helping us to care for families now and in the future. Thank you.
