Willen Hospice colleagues headed down to London for the Legacy Giving Awards 2023.

Back in February 2023, we were delighted to be shortlisted as a finalist for the Smee and Ford Legacy Giving Awards. Smee and Ford are Legacy Administrators who support charities of all sizes, causes and locations in the UK.

The award focused on our Building a Legacy project in the Making a Difference in Legacy Giving category. Our new building was partly funded by legacies left to Willen Hospice, these were generous gifts in wills by amazing people who specifically wanted to help us to future-proof our care.

Although this was a building project, it was about far more than bricks and mortar. It was about how these new spaces could offer innovative and high quality care and interventions for patients and their families.

Attending the afternoon ceremony were Fiz Johnson, Legacy Officer; Oli Hiscoe, Associate Director of Income Generation; Kathy Smith, Clinical Project Lead; Rachael Withe, Marketing Manager and Helen Winter, Marketing Campaign Manager.

We were in good company too, with many National Charities in attendance. Team Willen were really proud to represent Milton Keynes and talk about our amazing community on a national stage.

We were flying the flag for UK Hospices with our fellow table-mates from Weldmar Hospice  in Dorset and  our neighbours across the border in Bedfordshire, Keech Hospice.

Although we didn’t win the award , we are so proud of the project and the potential it brings. The real winners are our patients and their families.
