Patients & Families

Who do we care for?

We provide calm, heartfelt care for people who are facing end-of-life illnesses. Our care is provided by highly skilled professional doctors, nurses, counsellors and many others, and it is completely free to every patient and family member who needs us. We can only do this because of the wonderful support we get from local people.

Putting our patients and their families first

Willen Hospice is a very special place where we give people the best possible care at the toughest time of their lives. We do everything we can so that people feel relief from pain and families can enjoy the precious moments they have left with each other. In the midst of all the exhaustion, the pain and the grief, we are there to care.

How do we provide our care?

All of our patients are given a personal care plan when we first meet. We work closely with GPs, hospitals, community nursing staff and social workers to make sure that our specialist care is practical, informed and supportive at all levels. Often the most distressing aspect of living with life-limiting illnesses is the associated pain and symptoms. We give compassionate, specialist support to patients and their family members, to help them deal with both the physical and emotional effects of their illness and treatments.

What it means to our patients

We put patients who are living with life-limiting illnesses and their families at the heart of everything we do, providing compassionate care in a friendly, peaceful environment. We can’t change our patients’ diagnosis, but we can help improve their quality of life, as they come to terms with their illness.  We help them to live as well as they can, whether we care for them at our Hospice on Willen Lake or in their own homes.

We provide

  • specialist care for people with terminal illnesses and at the end of their life
  • support for the whole family
  • respect for individual wishes
  • care where and when people need it
  • free care to those who need us
