Our Ward Host/Hostesses are often the first smiley face our patients see, as we replenish their water throughout the day. As you can imagine, it takes a very special person to do Megan’s role and we’re really lucky that we have a Hospice full of them!
Meet the lovely Megan, she’s a Ward Hostess, here at the Hospice. Megan and the team ensure our patients have the very best meal and beverage service in our In-Patient Unit. As an important part of our warm and welcoming multi-disciplinary team, Megan ensures our patients are delivered their personalised dietary requirements.
Like all of the people that care for our patients, Megan is so humble, but we want you to know just how incredible she is. In her spare time, Megan is taking part in our Sahara Trek challenge, which is taking place in March to raise funds for Willen.
Megan told us “I am delighted to have the opportunity to take part in this amazing experience and fundraise for such a special charity. I hope to raise as much as I can to enable Willen Hospice to carry on providing the best care for our patients and their families.”
Megan’s Mum is also a social worker for Willen Hospice, so it’s obvious to see kindness runs in the family. As does a love for motorbikes, as you can see from the picture Megan comes, from a family of motorcyclists.
We think Megan’s fundraising story highlights perfectly how our Milton Keynes community comes together to support our colleagues, our patients and our families in our mission to care.
Megan and her family, together with Richard from Pure Triumph Motorcycles in Woburn Sands, regularly support us with ride-outs and deliver Easter Eggs for our colleagues and patients. Richard and Megan are busy planning a fundraising quiz night at The Station Terrace pub in Woburn Sands.
Megan also makes her own fantastic Jewellery and key rings and these have been on sale in the hospice for our colleagues to buy. You’ll see from the pictures, how creative she is, back in Woburn Sands, Lisa from Hairdressing Salon, Eclipz in the town, has a dedicated Jewellery pop up stand to Megan’s handiwork which are selling for £5 as another fundraising venture.
If you would like to support Megan in her fundraising you can do so here and we currently have a Bank Ward Hostess role available in our team here if you are looking to join the Willen Family.
We can only provide the care we do thanks to the incredible generosity of our community, through their continued volunteering, fundraising and donations throughout the year. Your donation will enable us to continue providing care and support to those facing a life-limiting diagnosis, and to support their loved ones.
