Behind the scenes in Milton Keynes, a network of local charities come together to care for their citizens. Willen Hospice are part of health and social care ecosystem that exists with you right in the centre.

Willen Hospice teams at both our In-Patient Unit and Willen at Home are always busy working with local community outreach charities to ensure palliative care reaches the most vulnerable. Willen Hospice passionately believes that access to palliative care is vital for everyone and we are developing relationships with other local charities to reach hard to engage groups.

Safeguarding those families under our care is top priority and we work with local domestic violence charity, MK Act. We may refer  patients and their families to The Community Fridge, Baby Basics and MK Storehouse to ensure they don’t have to worry about life’s basics at the most difficult in their lives.

We also share ideas with other UK Hospice charities to ensure we are always delivering the best possible service to those we care for. We are incredibly lucky to be able to draw upon the expertise of national charities like Mind BLMK and MK based MacIntyre and Victa in helping us communicate with families and patients with learning disabilities and young people with visual impairments, respectively.

Furry family members are looked after too, we often refer to The Cinnamon Trust, a national charity that looks after that future of our patients’ pets.

Our social care team share ideas with local child bereavement charities like Harry’s Rainbow and our Mascots are good friends!

We often work with Age UK Milton Keynes to ensure our patients have access to Home from Hospital help , befrienders or support with cleaning, by taking those worries in their home environment, our patients are free to make memories and plan ahead for their care.

We meet with Als Pals MK to see how together we can provide support to cancer patients in our local community.

This #Internationaldayofcharity we want to thank our local charity family for their support and expertise when our families need it most.
