As the countdown to Christmas began at the start of this week, the Willen Hospice Clinical and Warehouse teams were doing anything but winding down. Instead, they were busy working together with local organisations to help a patient in need this Christmas.

When Luisa Quinn, a Willen Hospice Community Cancer Nurse Specialists, visited a patient to provide care, she learned that he had recently been rehoused after previously being homeless and had very little personal belongings and no furniture.  Within a few days, the Hospice teams and local organisations pulled together to source all the items he needed from our donated furniture, and even food vouchers to ensure he is able to live in comfort.

Luisa visited him just as all the furniture was arriving and helped him to put it in place. She said, “He was absolutely overwhelmed with the generosity and couldn’t believe how much you all at Willen Hospice have helped. It is so heart-warming to be part of an organisation that does so much for our patients.” He later added, “Thanks to you kind people, I will now have a Christmas”

Willen Hospice is a Milton Keynes charity that provides compassionate, end of life care completely free of charge to local patients. To provide this, they need to raise £4.7 million every year and rely on the support and generosity of the community. The charity is calling on kind-hearted people to donate to their Christmas appeal if they are able to. A donation of just £20 could help pay for a nurse like Luisa to visit a patient at home over the Christmas period. Donations can be made here.
